What Is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is simply a deep state of relaxation that allows your subconscious mind to accept suggestions. With consistency those suggestions give you the power to make behavioral changes at a deeper level than you are able to accomplish at the conscious level. Hypnosis is sort of like a bridge of communication between your conscious desires (like quitting smoking or losing weight), and the unconscious mind (where your true power to change exists).
What does Hypnosis feel like?
In the beginning, everyone is different. The change from being fully awake and going into hypnotic consciousness can be very, very subtle. Some feel as if they did not go under hypnosis at all, while others cannot remember much of anything and think they fell asleep. For example you may feel as if you heard each word throughout the session, but you also think that you were only in the session for only 15 or 20 minutes, when in reality it can be that you were in a hypnotic state for an hour or more. You may become so completely absorbed during the induction, that you do not remember the suggestions at all but when you awaken you feel very refreshed and energized with happy feelings. Each time you are put under hypnosis, the experience is a little different but it gets faster and easier to relax and go deeper into hypnosis. You will respond quickly to the process and look forward to it!
Will I be distracted easily?
You are always in control of your responses to outside stimuli. You may or may not hear things in the background (trains, planes and automobiles, air conditioners, etc). You will be instructed to let those sounds carry you deeper and deeper into relaxation. Even if you are slightly awakened, you can simply say to yourself, "I am so relaxed and feeling great that nothing can distract me from this wonderful feeling". If you feel you have to cough, do it. If you have an itch, scratch it. You will be feeling so calm and relaxed you won't mind and you will just slip back into the happy place in your subconscious mind.
I am reluctant to allow myself to be controlled by anyone. Can I be hypnotized?
The first thing to remember about hypnosis is to keep an open mind. Sometimes we can be a bit resistant to trusting hypnotherapy and doubt the possibility of whether or not it is effective. This is only a part of you protecting yourself against change.
Hypnotherapy guides you into a deep state of relaxation that allows your subconscious mind to receive suggestions that will help you to improve things in your life. A properly credentialed hypnotherapist is also bound by rules of ethics. You are not going to be asked to surrender your will. Hypnotherapy is not the same thing as a stage hypnosis show. The stage hypnosis shows are meant to be entertaining and are not for therapeutic benefit. The hypnotherapist is there to help you in your journey to making things better, not to control, make fun of you or make you uncomfortable in any way. You will be gaining so much from your session and are in full control of yourself at all times.
To quote Dr. David Spiegel, Assoc. Chair of Psychiatry Stanford University School of Medicine:
"Hypnosis is not mind control. It's a naturally occurring state of concentration; it's actually a means of enhancing your control over both your mind and your body."
Will I be able to come out of the hypnotic trance?
You experience hypnosis every day and come out of it naturally. For example, when you driving your car, time just go by - you are on auto pilot. Your conscious mind is in full control of the vehicle while your subconscious mind is relaxed. Another example would be when you wake up in the morning and hit the snooze button. You can choose to wake up or drift back into a deep state of relaxation. You are always in control.
I have a lot things I would like to work on, where should I start?
Trust your gut feeling and work on one thing at time. Choose something that you are struggling with in your life where you feel you are the weakest. For example if you are tired all the time or lack energy and are overweight, this might be a good place to start. Or maybe you wish you could be promoted to a better job and more money but lack the confidence to go for it.
How soon will I see results?
Consistency is the key to success with hypnotherapy. Your experience with self-hypnosis is unique, so will experience positive change at your own speed and level. Often something happens without us really even noticing at first. Your confidence will be building more each day and it is impossible to know when it will be obvious to you that you are changing your habits. Hypnosis is proven to the most effective means of bringing about permanent and lasting life change, even if you aren’t immediately aware of it. Many times your family and friends will notice it before you do. Just keep on listening every day!
With hypnosis you are creating a new habit and getting rid of an old habit.
Example: Old Habit - I love junk food
New Habit - I prefer to eat healthy foods.
It takes on average 21 days to create a new habit and 90 days to make it permanent. However, many people notice immediate results (such as quitting smoking or not desiring sweets). The point is that everyone is different and the changes will come with consistency.
Is Hypnosis Dangerous?
No. You are in control at all times - however DO NOT listen to any sessions while driving or while engaged in any activity that requires your attention.
How Does Hypnosis Differ from Meditation?
A goal of meditation is to detach from your thoughts. In hypnosis you are in a focused state of attention. In short, the difference between hypnosis and meditation is that they both open the communication between the subconscious and conscious mind, however meditation being without content and not goal-driven, while hypnosis has content and is goal-driven.
How Does Hypnosis Compare to Other Forms of Therapy?
Hypnosis is the obvious choice for many struggles you may be experiencing in your life. Alfred A. Barrios, Ph.D. reviewed the overall lasting success of various psychological approaches.
This study revealed the following success rates:
- Hypnotherapy — 93% success rate after 6 sessions
- Behavior Therapy — 72% success rate after 22 sessions
- Psychotherapy — 38% success rate after 600 sessions

Will Hypnosis Conflict with My Religious or Spiritual Beliefs?
This is a common question. In my hypnotherapy practice and in my audio CD/MP3 series never addresses anything at the spiritual level. The sessions are designed to help you adopt healthy behaviors. Most Christian denominations allow hypnosis for clinical purposes only, as do Judaism and Islam.
Seventh-day Adventists and Christian Scientists do not approve of using hypnosis.
Is Hypnosis Medically Approved?
The American Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association have approved hypnotherapy for use by professionally responsible credentialed hypnotherapists. The British Medical Association also adopted hypnosis as a viable therapeutic tool in 1958. In fact, many dentists also have great success using hypnosis to relax patients before procedures.

About playing your hypnosis tracks on your portable device:
Loading music onto a portable device is relatively easy. However, the process varies amongst different device models. Most just require you to drag and drop your files onto a designated folder. Others such as Apple and Zune devices will require you to first add your tracks to the device’s library on your computer and then sync your device to it. Please refer to your device manufacturer’s instructions for specifics steps.
Can I listen to my hypnosis Audio CD or MP3 in a public place?
Once you understand and master the basic technique of self-hypnosis, you will learn to use it anywhere (except when you are operating any type of automobile or equipment). It is a great tool for relaxation in stressful situations and your conscious mind will always intervene in the event of danger or emergency. Self-hypnosis is always safe because you are always in control. In a very short time you can relax and rejuvenate yourself and take on the day.
Will my Audio CD arrive discreetly?
Yes, all CD orders are shipped in a plain white package. We respect your privacy.
Note for International Orders:
We are required to put a return address label and a customs label. However the return address is for James Kellogg, Jr., 3 Generations, Inc. We just write ‘CD’ (or CDs) on the customs label. There is no mention of the contents of the package on our packaging.
How Should I Use the CDs?
To achieve the maximum benefit from these CD's or MP3's we recommend the following:
- These sessions work best when you are undisturbed and comfortable. Please make sure your phone ringer is off and that you will not be disturbed for a 25-minute period. Headphones are helpful in blocking outside sounds.
- A comfortable chair is the best place to listen, although a couch will also work. If you are listening to these in bed, for the first cycle it will be best if you do not go into a deep sleep unless so stated by the hypnosis session itself. After the first cycle, you may use the sessions before bedtime (they make great sleep aids).
- DO NOT Listen to any hypnosis CD or MP3 while you are driving, operating machinery or while performing any task which require your attention.
- Listen to the CD or MP3 every day for 30 days.
- When purchasing more than 1 audio CD or MP3, listen to the first one for at least 21 days before you add the second one. Continue to finish the first one for the 21 days.
- It takes on average 21 days to learn a new habit and 90 days to make it permanent. If you want permanent results, you must be consistent.
